CIBBRiNA Project
Reducing Bycatch Through Research
The CIBBRiNA Project
CIBBRiNA is a large EU-funded project where fishermen and their organisations work with scientists, government ministries and NGOs to minimize incidental bycatch of marine mammals, birds, turtles and sharks and rays. It includes fisheries across the North-East Atlantic, Baltic, and Mediterranean seas, and uses collaborative research approaches as the means to promote sustainable fishing practices supported by research and innovation.
The SPFA and Shetland UHI are involved in the pelagic fisheries case study which includes partners from the DPPO, PFA and KFO working on monitoring programmes and mitigation measures such as escape panels.
