Dr Steven Mackinson to deliver this year’s Buckland Lecture

Dr Steven Mackinson, the chief scientific officer of the Scottish Pelagic Fishermen’s Association, will deliver this year’s Buckland Lecture at the University of St Andrews on 11 November.

Entitled ‘Resurrection: the fall and rise of industry participation in fisheries science’, Dr Mackinson will present the most recent advances in data collection and industry participation in fisheries science, drawing on the work being done in the pelagic fish sector, and setting it into context with the history of fisher knowledge and the increasing recognition of its importance.

Buckland Professors are appointed annually by the Buckland Foundation, an organisation founded to support contemporary fisheries research, and which each year appoints a Buckland Professor to deliver a lecture.
Dr Mackinson said: “I’m very honoured to be invited by the Buckland Foundation to speak about a subject that’s vogue in fisheries science and I’m very passionate about.”

Dr Mackinson’s lecture will take place at the University of St Andrews, Booth Lecture Theatre, Medical Building on 11 November from 17.15 to 18.30. More details and how to secure tickets at: https://tinyurl.com/vat2jhfd
